The Avenue of Flags

The Avenue of Flags book(s) expresses the thanks and appreciation of The Support Committee to the many individuals and organizations whose generous contributions made The Avenue of Flags at Alabama National Cemetery a reality. Some of the pages are dedicated to the memory of a particular veteran who is missed by family and friends. Other pages recall a distant time or place when our country was deeply involved in armed conflict somewhere around the globe. These individuals and organizations have made it possible for Old Glory to proudly wave every Memorial Day, July 4th and Veterans Day or on other special occasions at Alabama National Cemetery, so that The Avenue of Flags can represent all the millions of men and women who have faithfully served our land.

Purchases of these books help enable the Support Committee with the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the Avenue of Flags. It also goes toward the acquisition and placement of the flags used on each individual grave on Memorial Day.

Benches for Family Seating

The Support Committee purchased two benches that were placed at the start of the Memorial Walkway and in front of the Public Information Center. These benches are used by family members when they visit loved ones.

Support Committee Storage Building at ALNC

The Support Committee completed construction on our 30'X40' Storage Building on December 5th, 2013. We appreciate NCA's approval for the building to be located on ALNC property. The building was immediately utilized on December 12th to store over 2,700 live Maine Balsam Wreaths that arrived at ALNC for the Wreaths Across America program. Electricity was connected on December 26th, and we now store chairs, tables, tents, podium, PA system, water, ceremonial artificial wreaths, over 6,000 graveside flags, US Flag, and other necessary logistical items used at ALNC recurring events. We thank all those who donated funds, labor and equipment for the construction of the Storage Building. Now we ask for continued donations to help pay for electricial bills, insurance and future capital maintenance costs.
